Skin Moisturizers are water-based lotions, creams, or ointments formulated with humectants and emollients. Skin Moisturizers maintain skin nourished, preventing dryness, dullness, itchiness, and early aging. A good moisturizer will act as a glass of water for your skin. It will provide rich moisture, prevent dehydration, and allow your skin to look plump, feel smooth, and healthy. You should have a daytime and nighttime moisturizer for your skin, just as you do for your face. For daytime, always choose a light moisturizer such as a lotion. Nightime requires a creamier formula such as cream, butter, or ointment.

Skin Moisturizers are formulated with two main components, humectants and emollients. Humectants can be either natural or synthetic. The natural humectants such as aloe vera, AHA, honey, seaweed, shea butter, and hyaluronic acid are the best types for your skin. Humectants nourish your dermal and epidermal layers. They help encourage cell turnover and regeneration of new skin cells. Humectants also soothe skin and offer anti-inflammatory protection from environmental aggressors.

Emollients hydrate the skin by pulling water to the epidermal layer and keeping it there. Emollients assure that your skin's moisture levels remain normal, preventing dryness and dehydration. Emollients soften skin and help to prevent itchiness and irritation.

The active ingredients in Skin Moisturizers include antioxidants, retinol, vitamin E and C, CoQ10, ceramides, and polyphenols. It is always essential to avoid Skin Moisturizers that have mineral oil, as this may congest skin and cause oiliness. When applying your moisturizer, do so onto clean skin. Your moisturizer will be absorbed best on damp skin.
